"Gia Dinh Haha" episode 8: Leaving the saltiness of the sea for the sweet coconut land, guest Thanh Duy and the meal in the Mekong Delta region

Before leaving, the members worked together to make decorative gifts and set them up as unique check-in points at Go Co ancient village, as a memento left for the locals and tourists.

Leaving the saltiness of the Sa Huynh salt fields, "Gia Dinh Haha" will take the audience South to explore the rhythm of life and culture of the rich alluvial land. In this segment, the members will live and work with the family of Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong, and the surprise appearance of a new friend promises to bring many exciting colors to the coming days.

Sa Huynh: A farewell and a gift left behind

The farewell moments in Sa Huynh became more meaningful when the "Gia Dinh Haha" members decided to return to Go Co village. Following eldest brother Thuan's suggestion, the whole group started working together to make meaningful gifts to leave as memories for this place. Each person had a job, some sawing wooden planks, meticulously sanding, others carefully painting and skillfully decorating; all was done with the dedication and heart of all "Gia Dinh Haha" members. With the love they wanted to leave for the coastal land, the members personally completed vibrant picture frames and built a lovely swing, creating a warm space where locals and tourists can come and take beautiful photos of the Sa Huynh land.

The present "Gia Dinh Haha" gives to Quang Ngai

Before starting the decorating, the group cleaned up trash on the beach together. This action quickly received a response from local people and children; all joined hands to return the beach to its original beauty. In the farewell moment, a local woman representing Go Co village shared her thoughts on the efforts and heart of "Gia Dinh Haha"; the village people here wish for a reunion day with them. The journey segment in Quang Ngai officially closed, leaving unforgettable memories not only in the hearts of the members but also in the hearts of the local people.

Heading South, "Chi Dep" opens the way to welcome "Gia Dinh Haha" to the West

Saying goodbye to the silver-crested waves, goodbye to the briny scent from the sea of Quang Ngai, "Gia Dinh Haha" transitions into an entirely different landscape: the waterways of the Mekong Delta. Here, the group is immersed in the peaceful rhythm of life in the land known as the coconut country. The canals winding like green silk ribbons, the rows of coconut trees reflecting on the water, and the sound of paddles stirring the water painted a sweet picture of the river region, welcoming the members to a new journey segment.

"Gia Dinh Haha" on "Chi Dep"'s boat

Upon arrival in the Mekong Delta, the members were ferried by Ms. Dẹp – a sincere, charming local – on a small boat through the canals shaded by coconut trees. Impressed by Ms. Đẹp's grace, the eldest brother Thuận did not hesitate to humorously call her: "Chi Dep Dap Gio Re Song". Although she did not "split" the waves of the sea, she was the one who opened the path in the canals, welcoming "Gia Dinh Haha" to the lush green and peaceful beauty of the Mekong Delta.

"Chi Dep"'s boat docked, and the group stepped onto the bridge spanning the charming riverbank. Here, the group surprisingly received a secret letter from the program containing a riddle to find the new common house. The secret letter included many symbols of 9 animal species and mysterious yellow-highlighted letters. After a lively discussion, the group decoded and found the answer: Chu Chin Cuong (Uncle Chin Cuong). Excitedly overcoming the challenges on the signature coconut bridge of the West, the group found the familiar home of Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong.

Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong's house: From beekeeping to a meal filled with songs and laughter

As soon as they saw the members, Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong smiled brightly to welcome them, shaking hands and greeting them with warm hugs and handshakes, true to the hospitality and sincerity of Western people. The warm welcome became even livelier with the appearance of two lovely dog friends, Ut Cung and Gai Vang.

When Ba Nam (the third-oldest brother Nam) expressed his wish to enjoy the specialty coconut water, Aunty Chin Cuong prepared fresh coconuts with him for the group to quench their thirst. Meanwhile, eldest brother Thuan and Hai Thien (the second-oldest brother Thien) had an intimate conversation with Uncle Chin. Through simple words of sharing about life intertwined with canals and fruit trees, the members understood more about the down-to-earth quality and the warmth of the people here.

After the intimate conversation, Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong led the 5 "Gia Dinh Haha" members to visit the large garden, a scaled-down model of an ecological space with a variety of plants and animals. Here, Aunty Chin Cuong warned the members about the beehive, causing brother Ba Nam to wittily tease Tu Tam (fourth-oldest sister Tam) as a "flower" attracting bees. Uncle Chin Cuong also enthusiastically shared valuable knowledge about beekeeping and how to "harvest honey". The visit ended with sweet natural honey, a heartfelt gift from a family in the West.

Welcoming guest Thanh Duy, the "mat-selling corporation" gathers in the West

After a cozy lunch, while the 5 "Gia Dinh Haha" siblings were cleaning up, a surprise guest appeared. From afar, guest Thanh Duy strode onto the bridge, cheerfully humming and singing the folk song "Giac ngu dau noi". Brother Ba Nam wittily teased that they had to “ho” (traditional Vietnamese call-and-response singing) back at Thanh Duy for him to reveal himself. To welcome the new friend, brother Ba Nam had to “ho” back with lyrics from the medley "Ao mua dong x Tro ve" of the Xuong Rong family from the program "Anh Trai Vuot Ngan Chong Gai". After that unique duet, Thanh Duy officially joined the group.

After welcoming the guest home, the 5 brothers were instructed by Uncle Chin and started a signature job for people living in the river region: digging a ditch. Despite having to wade into the murky water, facing deep mud and the unpleasant smell of decomposed leaves, the whole group was not undeterred, enthusiastically scooping mud by hand and clearing the fallen leaves. The drops of sweat helped the members feel the hardship of Western laborers. Meanwhile, Tu Tam and Aunty Chin Cuong busily prepared dinner together, while Uncle Chin Cuong cut leaves to feed the goats.

During the comfy dinner, "Gia Dinh Haha" and guest Thanh Duy sang together, joining their voices in the song "Bai ca dat phuong Nam" as an emotional gift of morale for Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong. In response to that affection, Aunty Chin Cuong also gifted the group the song "Loi ve xom nho" with her sweet voice. In that atmosphere, eldest brother Thuan, on behalf of the group, sent sincere thanks to Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong for the warm welcome and meaningful experiences, which made the members feel like they were returning home. In response, Aunty Chin Cuong also expressed that although it was only the first day, she already grew very fond of the 6 siblings: "I will surely cry on the last day when you all leave, I’ve grown too fond of you all." Although they had only spent one day together, the sincere affection between "Gia Dinh Haha" and Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong's family had become truly bonded.

The new journey segment in the Western river region has opened with warm, happy moments. Through digging the ditch together, then gathering around the dinner table, the "Gia Dinh Haha" members felt the simplicity and affection of Aunty and Uncle Chin Cuong, as well as the Western people. The journey in the coconut land has just begun, and there are still many interesting things for the group to continue exploring in the following episodes.
