The “Gia Dinh Haha” chapter in Vietnam’s riverine Southwest closed on a high note with a surge of live viewership.

At exactly midnight, after nearly four hours on air, the YeaH1 Show YouTube channel still held more than 102,000 concurrent viewers for Episode 11. “I wish tonight could last forever” - Uncle Chín’s simple remark moved countless viewers to tears; for many, it carried the boundless affection of the hosts and perhaps also the audience towards Gia Dinh Haha.

From sweat among coconut groves to laughter by the fireside, every member of “Gia Dinh Haha” nurtured a bond that felt truly familial. More than a fond farewell, Episode 11 is a reminder that the warmth of the people here has turned the Mekong Delta into a home “with mother and father,” letting artists far from home and our casts feel like they’ve returned to one united family: “Gia Dinh Haha”.

Meeting as strangers, leaving as beloved family

The Mekong journey began when “chị Đẹp” led the first boat through the waterways, introducing the team to the land and the local people. As the chapter drew to a close, she again took the lead this time into the kitchen guiding everyone to make a farewell feast of sizzling “bánh xèo”. Things came full circle: the first person to welcome “Gia Dinh Haha” to the Delta now hosted a warm parting meal, like a final embrace from this riverland home.

As night fell and the coals glowed, Thanh Duy, Ái Phương, Hai Thiện, and Tư Tâm rolled up their sleeves to help. When the first pans of “bánh xèo” reached the table, impromptu melodies transformed dinner into an intimate concert. Út Khánh hummed rustic folk tunes; Ái Phương sang the song named “Tôi Thấy Hoa Vàng Trên Cỏ Xanh”; Ba Nam riffed on guitar with spontaneous lines. When Auntie Chín lifted her voice for “Nỗi Buồn Đêm Đông,” the whole group joined, harmonizing with instruments and chorus. Song by song, the circle drew closer, turning a simple meal into a night brimming with kinship.

Moments before farewell, the room quieted for heartfelt confessions. Anh Cả Thuận shared that it was a day of complete happiness being together, speaking openly, and treating one another as family. He was deeply moved that, with their hosts, he could be himself a son and a grandson feelings he hadn’t experienced in a long time. Even the two dogs, Út Cưng and Gái Vàng, seemed to sense the moment, clinging to everyone’s feet.

For all the members of “Gia Dinh Haha,” the Mekong is no longer a stopover. With Uncle and Auntie Chín, communal meals, and genuine laughter, they found a home sprung from childhood memories. Uncle Chín’s words “I wish tonight could last forever” made the parting truly heartrending. Many viewers wept, recognizing the silhouettes of their own parents and family in these lyrical, cinematic scenes.

Where “Even the Sun Unwinds”

At dawn, light filtered through coconut fronds to a gentle new day. While the brothers headed to market, Tư Tâm stayed back to talk softly with Auntie Chín, and Ái Phương cheerfully helped Uncle Chín care for the goats. The image of two young women sleeves rolled, capable and down-to-earth like daughters of the house left the hosts with a rare warmth and sense of belonging.

Over a simple breakfast, a glass of “sâm dứa sữa” whisked Thanh Duy and Ái Phương back to their school days when the final bell rang and they’d dash to the gate for a cool, sweet drink. In that serenity, feelings blossomed into melody. The peaceful landscape, their affection for this gentle land, and Auntie Chin’s heartfelt words became the purest inspiration for songs by Ái Phương, Ba Nam, and Hai Thiện. “Gia Dinh Haha” joked that it was so tranquil here that “even the sun feels at ease.”

The lights that ligt up the humble hamlet

During their days in Bến Tre from late-night fishing and clam raking to stories told by Uncle and Auntie Chín a wish took root: to do something meaningful to leave behind for the community. On their final day, “Gia Dinh Haha” installed 10 solar-powered streetlights along the village road a small yet meaningful gift to make daily life safer and easier.

The work was no breeze each hole had to be a meter deep but the spirited chorus of “Bài Ca Đất Phương Nam” from these “adopted children” of the South turned toil into joy. As each pole rose, they planted flower beds along the verge, transforming the lane into a brighter, more beautiful path filled with togetherness.

Ba Nam found himself singing, “Đường về quê thấy sao trong lòng vui ghê/ Đường về với gia đình,” voicing what they all felt after days of bonding. Though guests from afar, shared work and shared stories forged a genuine connection a transformation “from strangers to beloved.”

A local representative, on behalf of the community, expressed gratitude to “Gia Dinh Haha". He acknowledged the group's efforts in giving a fresh new look to the small village road and promised that together with the people, they would carefully preserve these meaningful gifts.

“We Love You So Much”

On their last night, under a moonlit sky, a cozy farewell dinner unfolded at Uncle and Auntie Chín Cường’s home. Uncle Chín looked at each member with tender eyes. His voice catching, he admitted they had been tearful since the afternoon, moved by the group’s sincerity and the bond they had brought to the household. He offered a heartfelt wish: become successful to help build the nation let youth and talent serve the motherland.

Auntie. Chín burst into tears uncontrollably simply because she "loves “Gia Dinh Haha” so much." That love is so immense that no words can fully express it. For her and the others, the past days felt like "two reunions of Tet"- a mid-year Tet filled with laughter, familial affection, and happiness.

In that quiet and heartfelt atmosphere, Anh Cả Thuận shared that today is a day of complete happiness. He expressed that being able to sit together in a circle, speak openly from the heart, and regard each other as family is an invaluable moment. Even though life will continue, he believes the memories made here will never fade. He was deeply moved because being near the elders made him feel like a true member of the family, able to be himself. Ái Phương also shared that it had been a long time since her last extended trip, and although the journey with "Gia Đình Haha" was unlike what she had imagined, it exceeded her expectations with many positive things nourishing her soul. Thanh Duy became choked up, eyes brimming with tears, when he compared the Mekong Delta to a home - a place where he felt small yet loved and cared for like a child in the family.

A Home with Mother and Father; A Lullaby for the Far-From-Home; Tư Tâm’s Sweetest Birthday

At dinner, the family surprised Tư Tâm with a birthday celebration. When the petite cake appeared, candlelight danced across her astonished face. Amid cheers and blessings, she was too moved to speak, tears of happiness rolling down. Her only wish that “Gia Dinh Haha”’s  journey would continue, so she could keep living these precious moments. Above all, she felt grateful to be part of this loving family a place of peace where she could be her true self.

To preserve these memories, Ái Phương and Ba Nam prepared thoughtful keepsakes for the hosts and all family members, quiet reminders of the beautiful moments they had created together. In return, Uncle Chín gifted local specialties: golden-ripe cacao, traditional rice wine, and fragrant jars of honey each made by his own hands. More than gifts, they were tokens of gentle, steadfast love for “his children.”

In the evening’s final moments, the space grew still for parting words. Thanh Duy began, thankful to have met the couple and felt the warmth of parental love like slipping back into childhood, small within the embrace of unconditional care. Ba Nam proudly unveiled his song “Về Đây Chơi Nghen,” inspired by Auntie Chín’s tender refrain: “Remember to come visit, okay?” Ái Phương followed with her own composition: “The love here I receive it and leave my heart behind, here in the Mekong.” Her lyrics rang like the soul of a child far from home, entrusting a piece of herself to this land. Listening, Auntie Chín grew misty-eyed, promising that whenever she missed them, she would replay these songs like a lullaby to sleep a simple, sacred vow turning music into an invisible thread that forever ties “Gia Dinh Haha” to this place and the people.

That night, each person’s thoughts and feelings found perfect expression across the full range of emotion. Time seemed to pause for stories and songs. In the warm hush, everyone blended into one no distance between those who came and those who stayed just one family, with parents and children gathered after time apart. In that stillness, Anh Cả Thuận confided he loved Uncle and Auntie as his own parents and promised to return. The journey closed with a tight embrace: Uncle Chin held him close and offered a heartfelt blessing “When you stay, the people cherish you; when you go, the people miss you.” It was a father’s wish for his children: to travel far, do good, and be loved wherever they go.

The laughter and tears of “Gia Dinh Haha” in the Mekong have reached their gentle conclusion. Though brief, the days with Uncle and Auntie Chín sowed seeds of love; the warmth here transformed a stopover into a true home. This journey is not just a beautiful memory it is a reminder of the meaning of family. Wherever they go, “Gia Dinh Haha” will carry a piece of their hearts from the Mekong, where they were embraced as their truest selves.

The program was filmed before 1 July 2025; some place names may have since changed.
