Gia Dinh Haha: A Game Show That Feels Like Home

Tuổi Trẻ Newspaper - You wouldn’t think these were artists filming a reality game show it looks more like children returning home, gathering on the family bed beside their father.
In the picture, Uncle Chín, the host father, lies comfortably on the bed while Bùi Công Nam rests next to him, holding his hand. Uncle Chín’s other hand rests gently on Nam’s leg. Duy Khánh, Thanh Duy, and Rhymastic sit at the foot of the bed, while Jun Phạm is right beside them. Some look at Uncle Chín, others glance at their phones a simple, ordinary moment that radiates warmth and intimacy.

It’s Only Goodbye for Now
Viewers couldn’t hold back their affection in the comments: “So, so adorable.”, “Feels just like New Year’s Eve when the kids all come home and lie around chatting with their parents.”, “It’s healing. It’s heart warming.”
Some even joked that Ngọc Thanh Tâm and Ái Phương were “probably over in the kitchen with Auntie Chín.”
Episode 11 of Gia Dinh Haha marked the farewell to Uncle and Auntie Chin in the Mekong Delta chapter, leaving audiences teary-eyed. Uploaded to YouTube, the episode drew nearly 3 million views in just 3 days, with over 4,000 comments.
The companion spin-off series “Gia Dinh Haha Stories” (Episode 10) also gained traction pulling almost 300,000 views and 200+ comments within 13 hours of release. But it was the farewell scene that struck the deepest chord. Uncle Chin’s words to the cast felt like a father’s blessings:
To Ái Phương: “My dear, now that you’ve come into my home, you’re my daughter. Do your best, my child.”
To Jun Phạm: “Stay here with us.” Then, almost to himself, he sighed: “But how could you? Your responsibilities are too big. I only hope you’ll come back someday.”
Jun Phạm responded with a promise: “We’ll come back. And not just on TV we’ll see each other again in real life.”
One viewer commented tenderly: “Will these kids who left home one day return?”

A Show That Touches Generations
The episode stirred personal memories for many. One viewer wrote: “Watching the grandparents return to their quiet daily life made me cry and miss my own. The last time I said goodbye to my grandma, I promised to visit every month. But less than two weeks later, she passed away. Grandma, we miss you so much. Thank you, “Gia Dinh Haha”, for creating a show that took me back to my childhood.”
Another shared: “When Ái Phương sang, I sat in my rented apartment overseas and cried so hard. I wish everyone from the countryside moving to the city could afford to return and live in their childhood home close to family, surrounded by peace.”
And a reflection that perhaps best captures the show’s success so far: “Maybe the real achievement of “Gia Dinh Haha” is that it touches the simplest, most ordinary things the very things we young people often overlook. Maybe it teaches us to slow down. Slow down and realize how many ‘ordinary yet extraordinary’ things are still around us. And above all, it’s all about love.
